@Vincent. Yes the functionality is about the same. A slider might give you better control of the awesomeness level, but still no control over what specific plugins are loaded :)

That makes me think very strongly of the “Desktop Effects” tab in the Appearance application in GNOME (or just Ubuntu?). ;)
